Mazemen Recipe
What is Mazemen?
Mazemen, also known as Mazesoba, is a Japanese style of ramen without soup. Instead of a broth, freshly boiled noodles are mixed directly with flavorful sauce and toppings such as spicy minced pork, green onions, seaweed flakes, and egg yolk. Originating from Nagoya, Mazemen has become popular globally due to its bold flavors, satisfying texture, and easy preparation.
How to Enjoy Mazemen at Home
-
Customize Your Sauce:
Experiment with spicy, savory, or tangy sauces by adjusting soy sauce, sesame oil, chili oil, or vinegar to your preference. -
Get Creative with Toppings:
Add soft-boiled eggs, minced pork, diced chicken, nori flakes, green onions, bamboo shoots (menma), or even grated cheese for a fusion twist. -
Serve Hot or Cold:
Mazemen can be enjoyed either freshly hot or chilled, making it versatile for all seasons. -
Finish with Rice:
After enjoying noodles, add a small portion of steamed rice into the remaining sauce for a delicious final bite—this is a popular way to fully enjoy Mazemen in Japan.
